“Enjoy the course of Pohang’s beach marathon where seagulls and blue waves roam.” The 10th Annual Pohang Beach Marathon for Unified Korea opens this March in Pohang City, with the course starting from Pohang Stadium. Hosted by the Pohang City Committee of National Unification Advisory Council and organized by the Pohang Sports Council, this year’s marathon is enjoying the spotlight of national marathon clubs for its fantastic course that spans the beautiful coastal landscape of Pohang, the international coastal sports city. The previous course stretched from Bukbu Beach to the coastal road of Heunghan-ri, but the new course starts at Pohang Stadium and continues to Haedo Riverside Road, Songdo Beach, Dongbin Bridge, Dongbin Quayside Road, Bukbu Beach and the coastal road of Hwanho Haejami Park. The fresh oceanic scent of Youngil will refresh the runners throughout the run. There are three types of contests – half, 10km and 5km – and more than 10,000 marathoners from Pohang and across the nation are expected to participate in the race. The application deadline is February 11 and online applications are accepted (http://festival.ipohang.org). The participation fee is \20000 for the half course and 10km course and \10000 for adults and \5000 for children for the 5km course.
