Homigot Sunrise Plaza
Homigot is located in the easternmost areaof the Korean Peninsula, and corresponds to the tail of a tiger in the geographical features of the Korean Peninsula. Kim Jeong-ho explored and measured this place seven times to make Daedongyojido (The Great Map of Korea), and confirmed that Homigot is the easternmost point in Korea. In addition, Nam Sa-go, who was a theorist of topography-based divination during the reign of King Myeongjong in the 16th century, described this place as corresponding to the tail of a tiger in the topography of Korea and was the most propitious view Choi Nam-seon described the look of the Korean Peninsula as a tiger on Baekdusan scratching the Maritime Province of Siberia with its legs. He selected Homigot, with the beautiful sunrise scenery, as one of the top ten views in Korea.
A tiger runs with the force of its tail and commands a group. Thus, the tail of a tiger symbolizes the prosperity of national fortunes as well as national prosperity and the welfare of people. Under Japanese imperialism, the Japanese drove metal spikes in Homigot to eliminate the spirit of Korea and compared the Korean Peninsula to a weak rabbit. They called this place Rabbit Tail to belittle it.
According to the data of the Korea Astronomy & Space Science Institute, the sunrise time in Homigot is 7:32AM (as of January 1, 1999). In this area, the sun rises earliest in the Korean Peninsula. As a national millennium event, the Homigot National Sunrise Festival was held from December 31, 1999 to January 1, 2000 in this area.
In addition, in the vicinity of Homigot, there are Homigot Lighthouse, which is the largest lighthouse in Korea and was established in 1908 the only lighthouse museum in Korea a monument inscribed with a poem, which is named Cheongpodo and was made in order to succeed to the pure spirit and patriotism of Lee Yuk-sa,a Korean poet totally committed to independence movements under Japanese imperialism and Daebo Spa using the clean sea water of the East Sea.
Transportation
- Take Seat Bus No. 200 or 200-1 from downtown. Get off the bus at Guryongpo, the last stop, and take a bus to Daebo. The buses run six times a day.
- Take National Road No. 31 from downtown to Guryongpo and Gampo. Enter Guryongpo-eup. Take Local Road No. 925 and drive in the direction of Daebo for about 20 minutes. Homigot is located on the coast on the right.
